Engineers Step Up For Charity
A 12-strong team from Leeds based Adept Consulting Engineers have raised more than £1,200 for two charities after scaling Yorkshire’s Three Peaks.
The money will be divided between children’s charity Barnardo’s and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) after the team climbed the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, covering a total distance of almost 25 miles.
Adept is a long-term supporter of Barnardo’s and the team chose to back JDRF because one of their wives, as well as her sister, has suffered with type 1 diabetes since childhood.
The four fastest members of Adept’s team, consisting of Matthew Ramsden, Adam Clarke, Brandon Baldwin and Jack Holden, completed the challenge in 10 hours and 36 minutes.
Andrew Spencer, an Engineer at Adept, who organised the event, says: “This was a gruelling challenge but it’s certainly rewarding to complete it and see two very deserving charities benefitting from our efforts. Both charities do very worthwhile jobs in improving the lives of young people, under very different circumstances, so we’re delighted to be able to support them by tackling Yorkshire’s Three Peaks.”
JDRF funds research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes and offers support to people with type 1 and their families. Barnardo’s was founded in 1866, to care for vulnerable children and young people, and has since grown into the UK’s largest children’s charity.
Adept was founded in 2007 and employs a team of 30 people in Leeds, Manchester and London, predominantly working across the commercial, warehousing, retail, educational, healthcare and residential sectors, providing a full range of civil and structural engineering solutions. These include surveys and reports, feasibility advice for new schemes, BIM services, geo-environmental studies, site investigations, conceptual and detailed drawings, flood-risk and drainage assessments as well as highway design.
