Yoga offers excellent benefits for staff at Christeyns

Laundry chemical manufacturer Christeyns takes employee welfare very seriously. Along with free fruit and complimentary stress-relieving massage, Christeyns now offers all its employees the opportunity to join a one hour yoga session at its Bradford head office.

The monthly yoga classes are run by locally based Palvinder Kaur, who teaches Dru Yoga, a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on flowing and subtly powerful movements that also focuses on breathing and visualisation. Designed to be practiced by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups, Dru Yoga offers a complete approach to health, wellbeing and attaining a sense of inner peace.

“We have a variety of employees attending the sessions from manufacturing based roles through to technical and office based and they are proving to be a great success,” says Christeyns HR Manager Sarah Dufton.

“In general the health benefits experienced by employees attending the sessions are the easing of back pain or physical discomfort, strengthening of both balance and focus, and development of good posture. Furthermore, yoga teaches employees to deal with their emotions, through developing a calm and peaceful mind and body.”

Christeyns recognizes that its employees are its most important asset and realizes that joint or muscle pain, and, or, stress are some of the most common reasons for absence in the industry. The Dru yoga sessions that Christeyns now run meet the need within the business for an initiative that is successful in focusing on both the body and mind, to alleviate pains and in reducing stress levels.

The firm also recognised that employees do not always take the time outside of their working lives to focus on themselves and their welfare, whether it be due to family commitments or not having time. Therefore it was important for Christeyns to find time to run the sessions within the working day.

The firm continually strives to improve its products and services and knows that to do this, it must have a happy, healthy and productive workforce. Employee welfare is a very important feature of daily life at Christeyns and as such is supported from the top down.

Christeyns UK is part of the Christeyns group, based in Ghent, Belgium. Its principal focus is the manufacture and supply of detergents and supporting chemicals for the commercial laundry sector across the UK in which it is the market leader.
