Starry night raises vital funds for charity

GUESTS enjoyed an enchanting evening of dinner and entertainment at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on Saturday 15th October, raising almost £22,000 for Calvert Trust Kielder.

Hundreds of guests and dedicated supporters of the charity attended the annual Calvert Ball, with this year’s theme ‘under dark skies’, ensuring it really was a starry, starry night.

As well as dinner, live music and dancing, Kielder Observatory experts were on hand to provide an out-of-this-world experience, manning a five-metre digital mobile planetarium cinema dome, giving guests the chance to observe a simulation of the night sky above Gateshead without light pollution - a real ‘under dark skies’ experience.

There was also a raffle and auction on the evening with a weekend in Prague, chocolate tasting and mountain climbing all on offer.

The Calvert Ball has raised more than £220,000 over the last 7 years allowing the charity to create life-changing experiences for disabled people, their families and friends.

Peter Cockerill, CEO at Calvert Trust Kielder said: “We are very grateful to everyone who came out to support us and help raise vital funds. Every year we are amazed at people’s generosity and this year is no exception.

“The Calvert Ball is one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar and is always a fantastic evening. The funds raised will help lots of adults and children experience outdoor adventure, have fun and make lasting memories.”

This year’s ball was supported by a number of local and regional businesses including Patricia J Arnold & Co, I Am Sold, Perro Design & Communications, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead and Robson Print.

Located in Kielder Water & Forest Park, Calvert Trust Kielder is a registered charity which enables guests of all abilities to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure.
