Nathan Furniture's Chairman Helps Raise Thousands for Charity
Nicholas Radford, Chairman of the Nathan Furniture Group, has successfully completed a charity bike ride in which he raised more than £6,000, along with 21 other keen cyclists raising a combined total of £58,000 for the Furniture Makers’ Company.
The bike ride saw the peloton travel a total of 470 miles, averaging around 80 miles per day. The group set off from the Guild Hall in London, arriving at their destination in Bordeaux just six days later. The journey took them through the heart of France’s wine-growing region where they were able to take some well-deserved pit-stops to enjoy the beautiful countryside.
Nicholas Radford and the rest of the group were greeted at the end of the arduous journey in Place des Quinconces by family, members and supporters of the Furniture Makers’ Company, as well as Anne-Marie Cazalet, a representative of the Mayor of Bordeaux.
The Furniture Makers’ Company is a UK charity that offers help and education to students, makers, retailers, designers, business owners and employees in the furnishing industry. The charity helps to nurture skills and expertise within the industry, offering bursaries and apprenticeships to those in school and higher education. The organisation also provides support and help to anyone whose career has been affected or put on hold by an accident or illness.
Each participant set their own personal target before the event, with Nicholas Radford and many others surpassing their goals. The total of £58,000 raised for the Furniture Makers’ Company also smashed their initial £50,000 goal.
Nicholas Radford commented: “It was easily one of the hardest things I have ever attempted and I’m immensely proud of everyone who completed the journey. On more than one occasion along the way I thought I had reached my limit, but the whole group kept encouraging one another and the miles rolled by.”
He added: “I’m delighted with the amount raised for the Furniture Makers’ Company, they are an important organisation who do great work supporting those in the industry as well as encouraging the next generation of designers, manufacturers and craftspeople to embark on successful careers.”
