Carbon neutral: Garnett Wharfe embarks on next phase

Garnett Wharfe, a pioneering David Wilson Homes development regenerating a derelict paper mill site in Otley, is progressing work on 36 brand new luxury riverside apartments.

The latest phase, which will see 34 two-bedroom apartments and two one-bedroom penthouse suites available to purchase from November, builds on the success since the site launched in 2014, with 70% of available homes now sold at the development.

David Wilson Homes’ continued investment in the site is one reason it’s proving so popular, with Buon Apps, an authentic Italian restaurant in Otley, confirmed as opening new premises, offering customers an al fresco dining area and a spacious riverside restaurant, alongside a Visitor Centre and office space for businesses.

Set on the historic site of the Garnett paper mill this picturesque development has also seen the recent installation of two Archimedes screws to form part of its impressive hydroelectric facility, generating electricity from the river weir, making the development carbon neutral on an offset basis. The facility is the latest in a host of environmental initiatives at Garnett Wharfe, which also includes an otter holt, bat chamber and a fish pass to help protect local wildlife.

Dan Hardcastle, Sales Manager at Garnett Wharfe, commented: “Set in a fantastic, idyllic location along the river bank, this is truly one of our most popular developments, which is no surprise. I’m sure our new executive apartments will be snapped up very quickly as they launch with our stunning show apartment next month.

“We’ve striven to ensure that Garnett Wharfe encapsulates the market town of Otley, and with investment in the like of our hydroelectric works at the development, we’re doing everything we can to give back to the local community.”

Garnett Wharfe is set along the southern side of the River Wharfe in the attractive market town of Otley. The development benefits from being located in a truly picturesque setting, with homes along the riverbank, open spaces and a pedestrian route leading to Otley town.
