Scriba PR scoops Thrombosis UK award

Huddersfield-based PR agency, Scriba PR, has scooped a Corporate Supporter award from Thrombosis UK, following three years of fundraising efforts.

The charity, which supports people living with and affected by thrombosis, held a celebratory event at Governor’s Hall, St Thomas’s Hospital on 13th October to acknowledge supporters of the cause – from those who drive medical advancements, through to individuals and companies that continually raise much-needed funds.

And Scriba certainly qualifies for the latter category. Since 2014, the company has raised more than £1,000 per year for the charity, with events ranging from a football tournament, to a social media ‘selfie’ campaign.

But the latest in a string of fundraising efforts, was the ‘Drink & Think’ night, held on Friday 21st October. As the name eludes, the evening involved a quiz, numerous games, and a raffle, which saw over 100 friends, family members and clients raise an additional £2,044 for the charity.

Scriba has been an avid supporter of Thrombosis UK since founder Katie Mallinson was diagnosed with a life threatening blood clot in 2014.

Commenting on the award win, Katie said: “Luckily I’m now fine, but my first-hand experience of the condition showed what lack of awareness there is, not only among members of the public, but the medical profession too. That’s why we endeavour to raise funds for the charity and to increase awareness about the illness.

“And the ceremony itself has solidified our support further! We were humbled to be invited to London to pick up an award from the people that run the charity 365 days a year.”

The award – one of ten on the day – was presented by MP Andrew Gwynne, chair of the all-party parliamentary thrombosis group. The celebration involved afternoon tea, before the awards themselves were presented.

Katie finished: “As clichéd as it sounds, at Scriba, we believe it’s really important that businesses ‘give something back’. So fundraising for Thrombosis UK is a great way for us to put our PR skills to good use and support this fantastic charity.”

Thrombosis is a leading cause of death across the globe, with one person dying on average every six seconds from a blood clot.
