Premier League star named as Middlesbrough NCS ambassador

Premier League footballer George Friend has been named as this season’s National Citizen Service (NCS) Ambassador for Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation.

The Middlesbrough FC defender joins 40 footballers from across the country to have pledged support for the NCS programme.

Middlesbrough FC is at the heart of the community and George Friend is a well-known name in Middlesbrough and so will play an integral role in helping raise awareness on NCS and engage with the wider community.

George Friend will continue his work alongside Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation and NCS by visiting school assemblies, engaging with young people on NCS programmes, and celebrating the amazing work young people achieve whilst taking part in NCS.

George Friend said: “I’m really proud to be chosen as NCS Ambassador for Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation. I think NCS is brilliant. It gives young people the chance to experience a variety of activities and challenges whilst building new friendships and benefitting the local community.

“Ultimately, NCS lays a solid foundation for these guys to go on confidently and achieve whatever they want in the future.“ Claire Streeter, NCS Coordinator for Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation, said: “It is fantastic to have George on board for another year supporting the NCS programme. We are extremely lucky to have an ambassador that plays such an active role in our programme and understands what NCS is all about. He not only inspires the young people that take part in the programme but also helps encourage more to get involved.“

Bookings are now open for the summer 2017 NCS programme with Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation. The programme will be running during the holidays and is open to all 15-17 year olds for £50 or less, depending on circumstances.

The NCS programme includes time away on an outdoor adventure somewhere like the Lake District, taking part in adrenaline-fueled activities and making new friends. Following this, teens return to a residential-base to build new CV-building skills for work, study and life. Next they make a mark on the local community through a social action project that is organised and delivered by young people themselves.
