Welsh microbrewery moves to Liverpool with new facility and jobs

North Wales firm Big Bog Brewery has relocated to Liverpool and expanded its workforce with grant funding from the Merseyside Jobs and Growth Fund.

The microbrewery moved into a facility five times bigger than its original premises, allowing it to take on two new members of staff.

Further, Big Bog Brewery plans to create two more jobs in the next six to eight months.

Master brewer Paul Jefferies, the owner of Big Bog Brewery, said: “Without the grant we couldn’t have financed the expansion.

“Sales went through the roof following our award win and thanks to the grant we have been able to expand to meet the increased demand.”

He continued: “We have created two jobs as a result of the expansion. We hope to increase production further in the next 6 – 8 months, buying a van and creating a new role for a driver.

“The grant process was incredibly straightforward, unlike other grants I have encountered in the past. We received support and guidance from Geoff every step of the way and the application was made really easy for us.”

The backing forms part of a wider £217k in grant funding allocated to seven Merseyside firms at the latest Merseyside Jobs and Growth Fund Investment Panel meeting. As a result of the fund’s most recent investment drive, 51 jobs have either been created or safeguarded, or will be created in the coming months.

The Regional Growth Fund programme manager at the St Helens Chamber, Geoff Bates, commented: “Big Bog Brewery is a successful company that was operating at capacity from a shared premises in North Wales.

“Thanks to the Fund they have been able to move to a larger premises to meet demand, and we fully expect to see further job creation in line with the increase in production.”

The Regional Growth Fund’s sixth round is currently open for applications from local companies under the Merseyside Jobs and Growth Fund.

More than £2m of grant funding will be awarded by March 2017 in grants of up to £75k.
