Newcastle hospital to hold joint injection course
NUFFIELD Health Newcastle Hospital is to host a joint and soft tissue injection course for the region’s healthcare professionals.
The event, which takes place at the Holiday Inn, Jesmond on 12 November, is open to North East healthcare professionals (GPs, GP trainees and hospital medics) who work with musculoskeletal (MSK) patients and would like to improve their assessment and diagnoses, as well as their joint/soft tissue injection skills.
GPs attending the event will have the opportunity to learn directly alongside their peers, keeping their knowledge and skills up-to-date and allowing them to gain Continuing Professional Development points and revalidation.
The event, sponsored by pharmaceutical company TRB Chemedica, will be headed up by two of Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital’s orthopaedic consultants specialising in both upper and lower limb MSK conditions. The specialists will cover knee, shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, and foot and ankle conditions.
Presentations and practical demonstrations will cover a variety of MSK conditions which require regular injection, with a focus on anatomy, examination, needle placements and injection technique.
Beth Brook, GP liaison manager at the hospital, said: “This event is part of our commitment to working more closely with local doctors’ surgeries and making them aware of the variety of procedures that we offer.
“The aim of the event is to provide information that will be relevant to healthcare professionals in their daily jobs, with our consultants also available to answer any questions that may arise during the day.
“As the UK’s largest healthcare charity Nuffield Health is very keen to provide these kinds of opportunities, giving healthcare professionals in the region the chance to get together and learn from each other.”
