Festive fun at intu Metrocentre's Winter Wonderland Weekend
Free festive fun at intu Metrocentre’s Winter Wonderland Weekend
intu Metrocentre is celebrating its 30th birthday this year, and inviting shoppers to join in the fun with a fabulous free weekend of festive family entertainment on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November.
All the fun of the fair is on the agenda, with music, ice skating, roaming characters, children’s crafts and face painting, plus the chance to win some great spot prizes and competitions.
The two day winter weekender heralds the start of intu Metrocentre’s festive season – with an indoor skating rink in Exhibition Square, near Primark, for two days only, providing all the fun of winter without the chill!
The Metrognomes and the Winter Princesses will be entertaining shoppers on the malls. Customers can snap a sorcerer’s selfie with Potter inspired characters, the Snow Queen will add her own wintry touch of magic and enchanting illuminated birds will be finding a place to perch and peruse the festive fun!
Over the course of the weekend north east musicians, including X Factor contestant Melissa Pedro and singer songwriter Channy Thompson, will be adding to the festival atmosphere.
On Saturday 12 November intu Metrocentre’s Christmas Light Switch On will take place in Town Square, near House of Fraser, hosted by Metro Radio’s Dan Moylan. UK music star Oritsé, who rose to fame with boyband JLS, will be performing and switching on the Christmas lights, alongside intu Metrocentre’s Heads of Fun, Santa Claus and special guest Team GB’s youngest Olympic medallist in 32 years, Amy Tinkler, from Bishop Auckland. Entertainment starts at 2 pm with the light switch on at 5 pm.
intu Metrocentre’s shoppers will be delighted to hear that Santa’s free Grotto, in association with Playmobil, also opens in time for the Winter Wonderland Weekend. Santa Claus will be welcoming children to his grotto from 9am on Saturday 12 November – every child receives a free gift and has the chance to divulge their Christmas wish list! The Grotto is situated in the lower Qube, Yellow Mall and includes a fun children’s craft area with colouring in stations.
There are a host of exciting competitions and fabulous prizes up for grabs; shoppers who hand in their wristbands from the Saltwell Park fireworks display on 5 November to any intu Metrocentre customer service desk on the 12 or 13 November will be entered in to a prize draw to win a £1000 intu Gift Card.
Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, said:
