Chaplain leads shopping centre's Remembrance Service
A special Remembrance Service will take place at intu Metrocentre this weekend, honouring the servicemen and women who lost their lives in conflict.
intu Metrocentre Chaplain, Lyn Jamieson, will lead a special Remembrance Service at 3pm in Town Square, near House of Fraser, paying tribute to those injured and killed in action, as well as friends and family who have been affected since the First World War.
The Salvation Army, Newcastle City Temple Band and The Ad Murum Singers from Heddon-on-the-Wall, will be performing at intu Metrocentre between 2.30pm and 2.50pm. Young cadets from the police and ATC (Air Training Corps) will also be present to pay their respects.
Lyn Jamieson, intu Metrocentre chaplain, said:
“The dedication and sacrifice made by so many, on behalf of us all must never be forgotten. It is extremely important that we continue to observe Remembrance Sunday – it is a time for reflection and giving thanks to those who gave their lives to ensure our peace and freedom.”
Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, added:
“Lyn Jamieson’s Remembrance Day services are always deeply heartfelt and moving – this year’s service will be particularly poignant as it marks the centenary of a number of significant anniversaries of the First World War including the Battle of the Somme. We’re honoured to host a service and pay tribute to all the civilian and armed forces personnel who have lost their lives serving our country in conflicts past and present.”
