Healthy drinks startup closes five-figure funding round on Tesco BackIt

Healthy drinks startup Tg Green Teas has reached its £10,000 funding goal on Tesco’s crowdfunding platform BackIt.

The business, which was founded in East Acton, set about raising the cash to further push its range of healthy, chilled green teas which it claims contains the lowest levels of sugar on the market.

Founded by Dr Hua He and Sophia Nadur, the firm now operates out of Kings Langley in Hertfordshire, with its teas brewed and packaged in Yaxley, Cambridgeshire.

According to its crowdfunding page, the brand will use the funding, which was from 110 backers, to buy a new van that will allow it to deliver its green tea range to more workplaces, and to build its sales support to get its product range in more UK shops.

Its campaign is one of the first wave of crowdfunding drives to close on Tesco’s new Seedrs and Crowdcube rival, which focuses on food and drinks, following its launch earlier in the year.

Following the closure of its crowdfunding campaign, Sophia said: “We’re so emotional about reaching our goal. We started the business with our own savings and buckets full of passion. We wanted to bring a drink to market that could be consumed by all, was low in sugar but didn’t compromise on taste, and I’m so proud to say we did.

“The support we’ve received from top nutritionists, fellow entrepreneurs and the public has been amazing and we thank every single one. We just can’t wait to bring our chilled green tea to more stores across the UK.”
