Conlon Begins on Temp Facilities for Preston School
Conlon Construction has begun a project to transform an existing building into temporary accommodation for a new Muslim faith primary school in Preston.
The 12-week project of an undisclosed sum, funded by the Education Funding Agency (EFA) and commissioned through its Regional Contractors Framework, will see Conlon turn the current Primrose Hill office block, London House, in the city centre, into suitable accommodation for 120 primary pupils at The Olive School.
Conlon is scheduled to complete the 1,316 sqm (14,165 sq ft) refurbishment project across the first two floors of the 13-storey building in January 2017.
The programme of works includes creating 6 classrooms, a reception area and toilet facilities, as well as using the existing outdoor areas to develop a playground.
Catering for 120 in the first year and adding 60 the year after, the Muslim faith school is part of the Tauheedul Education Trust (TET) – one of the UK’s leading education providers.
The TET is a mixed Multi Academy Trust (MAT) that runs both faith and non-faith primary and secondary schools.
Michael Conlon, chairman at Preston-based Conlon Construction, said: “Having recently completed the construction work for Eden Boy’s School, we’re excited to work on a second project with Tauheedul Education Trust.
“As a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, we take great care in the communities in which we operate. Our experience of both refurbishment projects and education schemes will enable us to deliver the project effectively and we are looking forward to the day we can unveil the new facilities to children attending the school.”
