Keepmoat kicks off second phase of £500m Hull regeneration project

The second phase of a major regeneration effort in Hull has gotten underway after housebuilder Keepmoat broke ground on new homes at Portobello Street.

The 142 new homes at the site are part of the wider £500m Hull City Wide Regeneration project which is aiming to deliver 4,000 new homes across the city over the next 13 years.

Keepmoat, Strata, Home Group and Priority Space all make up the consortium who will help deliver the ambitious homes target, with Keepmoat delivering 93 homes and housing association Home Group delivering a further 49 at the Portobello plot.

To celebrate the launch of the next phase of regeneration work, Councillor John Black, who holds the city council’s portfolio for housing and infrastructure, joined members of the consortium for a sod-cutting ceremony this week.

Cllr Black commented: “It’s great to see the plans rise from the drawing boards across the area, from the Integrated Care Centre to new council housing, we are creating exciting new opportunities for jobs and living.

“We are one of a minority of councils who continue in this difficult climate to secure funding and develop successful partnerships in order to build new affordable homes for rent.”

Martin Smithurst, regional managing director for Keepmoat, added: “The vision and commitment of Hull City Council is remarkable and this is a fantastic project to be involved in.

“Keepmoat has a proven track record in Hull and we are delighted to be supporting the council to transform some of the run down areas of this great city.”
