SPIE wins Approved Contractor status with Boots UK

SPIE UK has strengthened its position in the retail sector, winning Approved Contractor status with Boots UK. SPIE began to work with the leading pharmacy chain in January 2016 and to-date has contributed to works at stores including Boots, Perth, and a new Boots Opticians, Durham.

Boots UK has over 2500 outlets and can be found on most high streets, in shopping centres and airport terminals; its stores range from local community pharmacies to large health and beauty stores and opticians. The scope of the work undertaken by SPIE has been varied, ranging from small installations of cosmetic displays, to larger, fire risk assessment remedial works. It is also managing the replacement of store distribution boards and main LV panels.

Most recently, SPIE carried out M&E works at Boots, Perth. This project included the installation of a new dispensary with power and data/communications, a shop front, including doors and windows and a new sales floor requiring the replacement of existing wiring with busbar trunking throughout. Power and lighting was fitted at the front and back of the store while energy-efficient LED and emergency lighting was installed throughout.

The collective projects SPIE works on with Boots has helped contribute to an expansion of the company’s Multi-Technical Services specialist small works engineering team. The opening of a new office in Glasgow earlier this year has further supported this; it is from this office that many of SPIE’s projects with Boots are managed.

James Coulter, Project Manager for SPIE UK’s Multi-Technical Services Scotland business, explains: “We are proud to give Boots our support, offering our expertise on fire and security as well as M&E to assist with the reactive and remedial issues. Now, from our new Glasgow office, and with our increased resource, we have the capability to complete future M&E installations for Boots in Scotland, as we do elsewhere in the UK. We remain eager to demonstrate our commitment to building upon our end-user relationship with the company.”

Audrey Gibson, Storecare Field Manager for Scotland, Boots UK, says: “Over the last year our confidence in SPIE has grown; from a new-found relationship in January 2016, we are pleased to now call SPIE an approved contractor. Given that our stores can be found in all corners of the country, an ability to reach or service any one of our bases is vital. SPIE has extensive reach across the UK, which more than meets that need. Its depth of expertise means we can rely on the team to meet all of our M&E needs.”
