Proposals submitted for £1.2m refurb at Leeds’ Aireborough Leisure Centre

Senior councillors in Leeds are set to discuss proposals for a seven-figure revamp of Aireborough Leisure Centre.

If approved, the £1.2m project will see the facility given a face-lift with new cubicle, shower and toilet facilities, a retiled pool deck and improvements to the site’s walled areas.

The programme would look to enhance the visitor experience further with improvements to Aireborough Leisure Centre’s frontage, reception and car park entrance.

Leeds City Council is also being asked to back a plan for the facility to serve as the new home of a local Community Hub, providing advice for locals on council matters and housing Guiseley Library and a café.

Cllr James Lewis, executive member with responsibility for sport at Leeds City Council, said: “I am pleased that we are now in a position to provide further details of our £1.2m refurbishment programme of Aireborough Leisure Centre to the executive board.

“We want to make our leisure centres somewhere that offer both excellent facilities and a positive visitor experience for users, and this revamp which will see improvements made both internally and externally, will help ensure that we are meeting these aims at of Aireborough Centre.”

Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, Cllr Debra Coupar, commented: “The development of the Community Hub programme offers a completely new way of working.

“Community Hubs place integrated, accessible services where they are most needed: at the heart of local communities.”

She added: “This is an exciting prospect for Guiseley and one we are looking forward to progressing.”
