Bo'ness drama group's applause for housebuilder's grant

A donation from a leading UK housebuilder has proved music to the ears of a drama group in Falkirk, after receiving the grant towards renovation of their premises in Bo’ness. The Barony Players received £945 as a part of Persimmon Homes East Scotland’s Community Champions initiative, which sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities. The group which is based at The Barony Theatre has played a key role in the community for over 60 years but the building is now showing signs of wear. Wendy Turner, Chair at The Barony Players, said: “The theatre has been our home since 1964 and it is a fantastic hub for the community and our work in Bo’ness. “It was last fully renovated in 1966, and despite the best efforts of our volunteers, the building is now in desperate need of repair”. “We are currently running a project to renovate the entire theatre, with the first phase of renovations costing over £300,000”. “Persimmon’s kind donation of Community Champions funding will fund a new fire alarm system, which is very high on our list of priorities.” The theatre plans a complete overhaul to its facilities, including a replacement roof, new heating and drainage systems, a new community room and level access into the building. Jim Kirkpatrick, managing director for Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support The Barony Players with a £945 donation, which we know will help contribute towards their wonderful community facility. Persimmon Homes East Scotland has had a fantastic response to our Community Champions initiative and it is always difficult to pick a winner. “If applicants have previously been unsuccessful we urge you to visit our website and re-apply.” Persimmon Homes East Scotland is currently building a range of new homes at sites in Falkirk including Silver Birch Park, Carron Park and Ashridge with prices starting from £122,995.
