Ultimate business travel jacket gets Kickstarter backing

Meet Maunder XV, the new British outerwear brand created from one man’s refusal to ‘be beaten’ by the drudgery of modern business travel is expected to land in 2017 having hit its Kickstartergoal in half of its fundraising period.

Bridging the gap between formal and performance outerwear, the Deepcover range of jackets were created when British businessman, Michael Utley couldn’t find a jacket smart enough for business with the technical performance of a mountain coat.

“When you’re first sent away on business, it’s exciting, but after a couple of trips, the that evaporates as you get ground down by trains, planes and meeting rooms – travelling the world but seeing none of it.”

“Growing up in the New Forest, I refused to be beaten by business travel – whether that was going for a bike ride in Amsterdam or stealing half a day in the mountains from Geneva or Milan.

“Things came to a head in when I had a formal evening event with big fashion brand in Milan and as the heavens opened I faced the prospect of turning up in my high-tech mountain jacket and being by far the worst dressed person there, or turning up soaked to the bone. There’s never room in hand luggage for two jackets, so I had to create something new”

Frustrated by the lack of affordable, stylish options Michael Utley designed the Deepcover as the ultimate do-it all jacket for a busy business travel lifestyle.

Considerately constructed using the latest breathable triple membrane fabrics and DWR-coated thermal inner, the Deepcover jackets feature a suit-friendly fish-tail rear and a sharp swoop collar with a smart magnetically-removable hood along with a number of subtle outdoor-ready features.

Utley continued “The hood was a great breakthrough for us – there are times, especially in work when hoods just aren’t acceptable, so using the hidden magnets meant the jacket could have a sharp collar line without ugly zippers or poppers, but transform to give full protection when the sky gives way.”

Founder, Michael Utley said: “Hitting our target proves the appeal of the Deepcover range & the lack of a true go-anywhere jacket on the market. This is just the first step in making our vision become a reality we’d like to thank all our supporters & look forward to taking them with us on our journey.”

Utley continued: “We questioned what the market had to offer and have gone into great detail to create some truly versatile products. We’ve received great feedback from everyone who’s seen the jackets and can’t wait to see the real thing on people’s backs early next year.”
