Temporary vacancies in the East Midlands rise 16%

Demand for temporary professionals in the East Midlands has risen 16% year on year to October 2016 according to recent research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).

The data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, revealed that in addition to the 16% uplift in professional vacancies, demand for contractors rose significantly across a number of sectors including construction and manufacturing which experienced uplifts of 50% and 22% respectively.

Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Membership Relations Manager at APSCo said:

“Following three consecutive months of positive uplift, professional job availability in the temporary market rose once again year on year to October. Despite many predictions of short term volatility in the employment market following the UK’s decision to exit the European Union, hiring sentiment remains broadly stable. APSCo’s findings sit in line with recent figures from the Office for National Statistics which found that overall employment stabilised at 74.5% in the three months to August 2016 – representing no change in percentage points when compared to the three months to July.”

“Demand for temporary construction professionals soared by 50% year on year to October, following a positive upward trend in recent months. This demand is likely to be bolstered by a multi-million pound residential scheme earmarked for Nottingham which is set to create 650 jobs during construction. Professional demand for contractors also rose in the manufacturing sector, increasing 22% year on year. The East Midlands position as a national hub for innovation in the sector will no doubt be cemented when the construction of a pioneering advanced manufacturing building for the University of Nottingham is completed next year.”
