Vacancies in the West Midlands rise by 4%
Demand for professionals in the West Midlands has risen by 4% year on year to October 2016 according to research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).
The data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, revealed that in addition to the 4% uplift in permanent vacancies, temporary vacancies also experienced a rise of 7% year on year to October. Demand for professionals rose significantly across a number of sectors including HR and science which experienced uplifts of 22% and 16% respectively.
Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Membership Relations Manager at APSCo said:
“Following two consecutive months of positive uplift in both the temporary and permanent markets, professional job availability has risen once again year on year to October. Despite many predictions of short term volatility in the employment market following the UK’s decision to exit the European Union, hiring sentiment remains broadly stable. APSCo’s findings sit in line with recent figures from the Office for National Statistics which found that overall employment stabilised at 74.5% in the three months to August 2016 – representing no change in percentage points when compared to the three months to July.”
“Demand for professionals in the HR sector rose by 22% year on year to September, no doubt, in part due to the increasing number of businesses realising the countless business benefits of relocating their back offices to the ‘Midlands Engine’. Professional job availability also rose in the sciences sector, somewhat unsurprising given that the region already supports around 14,000 Life Science jobs and continues to grow.”
