Jomast to begin work on Middlesbrough Premier Inn in early 2017

Premier Inn is opening a new hotel in Middlesbrough, anticipated to create more than 300 jobs in the Tees Valley throughout both the construction and operation of the development.

Property development firm Jomast Developments will begin the build early next year, following an initial £5m investment from the British hotel chain.

The development of the new hotel is the first exciting step towards what will ultimately be a bigger regeneration project of the Gurney Street Triangle.

The hotel will be located on the car park alongside the existing Jurys Inn hotel and Unite buildings, heralding a new phase of regeneration in the town.

The ground floor of the new building will consist of the reception area, a restaurant and bar and a number of bedrooms. The remaining floors will each have a similar layout of 16 bedrooms each, with a total of 83-rooms in the building.

The news follows a string of regeneration projects in 2016 from Jomast in Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas, including the Bedford Street and Queens Square area of the town.

Adam Hearld, Development Director at Jomast Developments, said: “The project will have a significant impact in transforming the existing area, benefiting it both architecturally and economically with the addition of hundreds of jobs to local people.”
