LJ Ross reveals How To Write a Bestseller

DCI Ryan author LJ Ross will be revealing How To Write a Bestseller at a special Amazon event for budding writers.

LJ Ross knocked Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train off the top spot in the Amazon charts when she released her debut novel Holy Island She has gone on to sell half a million copies of her DCI Ryan thrillers in just 18 months and will now be sharing the secrets of her success at a special event organised by e-book giant Amazon. LJ, 31, was offered a traditional publishing deal, but turned it down in favour of self-publishing with Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).

The lawyer-turned-author will be discussing How to Write a Best Seller at a day-long How to Publish Independently With Amazon event in Dublin on November 19th

Her talk is also set to be live streamed on the Amazon KDP You Tube channel. LJ said: “While the old saying goes that there’s a book in everyone, the idea of getting that book out of your head and onto the page is daunting in itself. Then, there is the question of how you get that book published. “While there’s no magic wand solution to writing a bestseller, I’m excited to be able to share some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way.” After becoming increasingly unhappy with her career as a city regulatory lawyer, LJ deliberately stepped off the career ladder, before becoming an author almost by chance. She was travelling by train from London to Edinburgh when she happened to glance out of the window at Holy Island, commenting to her husband James that this little island, cut off by the tide twice a day, would make a great setting for a whodunnit. LJ went on to publish Holy Island in January 2015, the first in her DCI Ryan series, and now has four bestselling books out with her next one due for pre-release within weeks. In total, she has sold more than 500,000 copies of her novels, which have all spent time either at the top, or in the top 10 of the Amazon bestsellers lists. Her debut novel has also been translated into German and her books are bestsellers in Australia, France and India as well as the UK. The audiobooks, released through Audible, have also been number one bestsellers. She will be talking about the importance of characterisation and creating a sense of place, as well as why it is vital to treat self-publishing as a business. While her real name is Louise, she decided on LJ to say thank you to her husband James for his unstinting support when she gave up a lucrative career to take a risk and write. Originally from Ponteland, Northumberland, LJ now lives in Bath with James and their three-year-old son Ethan. * LJ will be at the Davenport Hotel in Dublin for the Amazon event on November 19th .Her talk How To Write a Bestseller will also be streamed live on the Amazon KDP You Tube channel .
