Equilibrium founder named Entrepreneur of the Year

Colin Lawson, founder and partner of wealth management firm Equilibrium Asset Management, has won ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the North East Cheshire Business (NECB) Awards.

It marks the second consecutive year the firm has won at the awards, after it picked up the accolade for ‘Excellence in Customer Service’ last year.

The award, presented at Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Knutsford, comes as Equilibrium celebrates its 21st year in business, first being launched by Colin from his back bedroom in 1995.

Colin said:

’’When I first had the idea to start the business, then called Applewood Financial, I had never been a financial adviser, never dealt with a client directly before, never run a business and I had no clients to my name – so to say I took a huge gamble would be an understatement.

’’To have now been recognised as ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ is fantastic. I’m very proud that the judges decided that I deserved the award and it’s brilliant to receive that sort of recognition.’’

Now regarded as one of the leading wealth management firms in the UK, Equilibrium has grown to become a North West success story that employs 60 staff and manages more than £590 million worth of assets for 850 families.

The firm recently announced its annual results which saw it smash through the £6 million turnover barrier – growing more than 11 per cent on last year.

Colin added:

’‘It’s been a fantastic year for the business as a whole. We’ve expanded our staff, brought new clients on board and surpassed our targets.

’‘2016 has been exciting, yet challenging, given the major events we have seen – Brexit and Trump to name just two! We’ve been agile enough to navigate these challenges successfully and can now look forward to 2017 with plenty of optimism.’’

Equilibrium was also shortlisted for ‘Team of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in Customer Service’.
