Facebook's new London HQ to create 500 new tech jobs
US social network giant Facebook has revealed that it is to boost its UK workforce by 50% when it moves into its new UK headquarters next year.
According to the tech firm’s Vice-President for EMEA, Nicola Mendelsohn, the new facility in Fitzrovia will support the creation of 500 new high-skilled tech jobs with the lionshare being based in its new central London home.
According to the BBC, Mendelsohn is set to announce the creation of the new positions, which will include engineers, project managers, marketers and sales staff, at the Confederation of British Industry conference today.
Describing the UK as ‘one of the best places to be a tech company’, Mendelsohn revealed that many of the new positions will be high-skilled engineering jobs, building on country’s position as Facebook’s second biggest engineering base out of the US.
It comes after Google reaffirmed its commitment to the capital last week after it announced it would proceed with its new £1bn London headquarters, in a move that is set to create 3,000 new jobs by 2020.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said that Facebook’s expansion was further evidence of ‘London’s strength as a tech hub’.
He commented: “The capital’s vibrant tech scene is the envy of Europe and Facebook’s continuing commitment is another sign that London is open to talent, innovation and entrepreneurship from all four corners of the world.”
