First public exhibition for £2bn urban village development in Liverpool
Residents in Liverpool will get their first chance to see plans for a new £2bn urban village currently being plotted less than a mile from the city centre as part of a public exhibition tomorrow.
Taking place at Kensington Fields Community Centre, on Low Hill, the event will provide plans and details on the Paddington Village scheme, a key part of the city’s new KQ Liverpool development.
The public will have from 2pm to 7pm to visit the exhibition, which is part of the 7 week long consultation process on a draft Spatial Regeneration Framework (SRF) which will guide development at the 30 acre site.
Consisting of Paddington Central, Paddington South and Paddington North, which make up the three phases of the proposed project, the site sits near the new Royal Liverpool Hospital and will look to foster a investment for knowledge-based businesses as well as create a new residential neighbourhood.
The wider KQ Liverpool scheme forms one of the Mayor’s five Mayoral Development Zones, and it is anticipated the new development will create up to 10,000 new jobs.
Mayor Joe Anderson commented: “KQ Liverpool is going to transform this city’s economic landscape beyond all recognition and Paddington Village is its beating heart.
’‘How we develop Paddington Village is the first major step and this public consultation is vital to ensuring everyone is on board at the beginning of what will be a very exciting journey.’’
Occupiers already lined up for Paddington Central include the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) who are planning a Northern Centre of Excellence at the site, and a 45,000 sf ft ‘live-learn facility’ for Liverpool International College which will consist of flats and lecture halls if planning approval is obtained.
