Young performers to hit New York

A children’s performing arts academy in Dunfermline is looking forward to treading the boards on Broadway thanks to a leading Scottish builder.

Persimmon Homes North Scotland has awarded £800 to the Fife Academy of Performing Arts to fund a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend singing, dancing and acting workshops at Broadway Dance Studios, in New York.

The talented youngsters will learn from industry professionals and Broadway stars during their trip in February 2017.

The academy has a busy line-up of fundraising events between now and January, including a race night, wrapping presents at Kingsgate Shopping Centre, a Christmas concert and performances.

Marian Hudson, treasurer and fundraising co-ordinator at Fife Academy of Performing Arts, said: “We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation from Persimmon. Getting the chance to take the classes at the famous Broadway Dance Studios is a dream come true for our performers and will undoubtedly help to build their confidence and develop their skills.”

Iain Innes, Managing Director at Persimmon North Scotland, said: “The academy is exactly what Community Champions is all about as the group works hard for the benefit of youngsters in and around Dunfermline. We are delighted to be able to support them in any way we can.

“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions but I would encourage any charity or organisation that missed out this time, even if they have won previously, to apply again.”
