Networking group launched for Durham’s young professionals

Durham Young Professionals, a networking group aimed at under 35s or those at the start of their professional careers, has launched in County Durham this week.

Supported by Handelsbanken and law firm Swinburne Maddison, the group has been founded by four of their young bankers and lawyers.

Caroline Kirk, David Low, Edward Duncan and Sarah Carr have been planning this initiative for the last few months and this week marks the launch of the Durham Young Professionals’ website and social media presence.

Four events are already planned for 2017, the first of which will take place on Thursday 2nd March 2017 at the Ebony Champagne Bar in Durham city centre.

Sarah Carr, a solicitor in the corporate team at Swinburne Maddison, explained: “Until now there have been no networking groups specifically for young professionals in Durham.

“When you’re at the start of your career, it’s really important to connect with other professionals who are at a similar level – as has been proven by the success of Newcastle Young Professionals Forum and Young Guns Teesside.

“We hope our events will attract young entrepreneurs and professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds.”

Rory Gibson, Branch Manager at Handelsbanken Durham, added: “We are excited to see this new networking group established, with the great opportunities it will bring for young professionals in the Durham area.”

Durham Young Professionals has been further supported by Concision, a local business which has developed the branding and online presence for the network.

Daniel Roe, who heads up Concision, commented: “We were thrilled to be able to support this new network. It is a great initiative and our staff are already booked onto the first event.”
