Pete Wilson named national apprentice of the year

A hardworking apprentice working on developments in Hampshire has received national recognition, having been named Barratt Homes’ apprentice of the year.

Pete Wilson (25) was crowned the company’s top apprentice in the UK at a recent gala awards ceremony.

“Winning this award has been amazing and with some many apprentices working for the company throughout the UK I’m thrilled to have been chosen,” said Pete.

The apprentice site manager works on Barratt developments in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight with recent projects including overseeing construction of a brand new community centre in Havant. The project was built entirely by apprentices – a UK first for the five star housebuilder.

“I’ve got so much out of my apprenticeship that I’m keen to inspire other young people to consider it as a way into a great career, whatever industry they’re interested in,’’ said Pete.

“As well as mentoring younger apprentices with Barratt Developments I’ve been to various career fayres, where I share my experiences and offer advice to young people in what they can do once they leave school. “

Pete’s role covers everything from health and safety on site through to programming works and ensuring the build is on target and up to the required standards.

David Thomas, group chief executive of Barratt Developments presented Pete with his award. “Apprentices are the lifeblood of our company and I’m delighted to report that those in the south are among the best I’ve encountered,” he said.
