JM Glendinning acquires West Yorkshire later life financial planning business

JM Glendinning, the Guiseley-based insurance, financial and health and safety services group, has acquired a Baildon later life financial planning business.

JM Glendinning Financial Services’ acquisition of Precedo Financial Consultancy Ltd will see Precedo founder and managing director Andrew Pyrah and graduate trainee Jonathan Sharp join the JM Glendinning Financial Services team.

The new team will offer specialist financial advice to people aged over 55.

Andrew specialises in advising people on equity release, nursing homes fees and investment planning, as well as helping make sure the right legal planning is in place in retirement.

He is a Chartered Financial Planner, accredited by the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA) and the Financial & Legal Skills Partnership as a specialist adviser for people in later life and their families.

Andrew said: “This is an exciting opportunity to join a local, family run firm of independent financial advisers, where I have been given full backing to build a later life financial planning arm within the business.

“My aim is to become a leader in this area of financial advice, both in Yorkshire and further afield. The move also allows me to draw on the existing expertise within the JM Glendinning group to expand the services I can offer my existing clients, including specialist pension advice, insurance and health and safety services.”

Nigel Stallworthy, JM Glendinning Financial Services managing director, commented: “Having worked with Andrew for the last two years to provide later life financial advice to our clients, we saw an opportunity to formally offer these specialist services as part of our service portfolio.

“I believe that bringing the Precedo team into the business and adding Andrew’s extensive expertise to our team will continue to add real value for our clients.

“We are also very keen to offer apprenticeships and graduate trainee opportunities in financial services. The fact that a number of banks and building societies have stopped offering financial advice in recent years is limiting opportunities for graduates, and we see huge value in bringing the right people into the business and offering them a clear, fully supported career path. We’re very happy to have Jonathan on board.”

Jonathan Sharp has been working part-time for Precedo since 2015 and, following his graduation with an accountancy degree this summer, is now working alongside Andrew whilst training to become a fully qualified independent financial adviser.

He concluded: “Working with Andrew over the last 12 months while I completed my degree, it became clear this was the career path I wanted to follow.

“I am very grateful to be offered a graduate trainee position with JM Glendinning, together with the structured and financial support to become a fully qualified Financial Adviser. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”
