College campus upgrade complete

Students at County Durham’s best performing secondary school are enjoying an improved learning environment after a recent revamp.

The upgrade to Sedgefield Community School involved the addition of a new two-storey education block that includes a multi-use dining area, play areas and teaching areas.

Headteacher David Davies, said: “The new two-storey block adds to the already impressive range facilities our students enjoy and includes a number of much needed high quality teaching spaces and a new multi-use dining area, surrounded by hard play areas and landscaping.

“We are very fortunate at to have such an inspirational new building, which undoubtedly contributes towards the success of our school and an environment which promotes learning.”

Opus Building Services was awarded the contract to provide the design and installation of the specialist building services on the project. Gavin Richardson, Managing Director of Opus Building Services, added: “It has been a pleasure working with Sedgefield Community College to enhance what were already first class facilities. The school exemplifies excellence throughout and is an inspirational setting for learning.

“We now have a wealth of experience in the education sector in the region from the refurbishment of halls of residences’ and the construction of new build student accommodation, to the creation of leading edge laboratories and medical school facilities.”

Sedgefield Community College is located in a contemporary and inspirational new school building in Hawthorn Road, Sedgefield. Some of the school’s impressive facilities include a six-court sports hall, dance studio, third generation and Astro turf pitches, floodlit tennis courts and 20 acres of playing fields as well as a fitness suite equipped with the latest fitness machines. In addition, the college has excellent facilities for the creative and performing arts with music practice rooms, a recording studio, dedicated performance area and 2D/3D art spaces.

Opus Building Services provide specialist building services across a range of sectors including; commercial and retail, healthcare, education, sports and leisure as well as industrial and manufacturing.
