Vernacare's Emma Sheldon wins top award for championing export
Emma Sheldon, Group Marketing Director of Bolton-based medical products manufacturer Vernacare, has been named International Ambassador at the Insider North West International Trade Awards 2016.
This ‘Personality of the Year’ award recognises her high profile work in helping and inspiring organisations to succeed and grow internationally.
Emma, who is the Institute of Directors’ North West International Director of the Year 2016, is responsible for leading Vernacare’s marketing and market access activities across 48 countries and six continents. She has re-engineered the company’s international strategy and introduced a high growth strategy, which has led to a phase of strong export growth for Vernacare. This includes recent trade deals in Singapore, China, France and India.
She has recently returned from a trade delegation to India led by the UK Prime Minister, where a five-year supply agreement was announced with one of Asia’s largest healthcare management groups.
The Awards judging panel said: “Emma Sheldon was chosen by the judges in recognition of her outstanding work in engaging with other businesses and promoting international trade. She is the driving force of Vernacare’s export strategy and has “given back” to the export community in the region through her work as a board member of the UK India Business Council; a member of the Institute of Directors’ Council; and a Department of International Trade NW Trade Ambassador. She also supports businesses in the region via involvement in the Northern Powerhouse and Greater Manchester Regional Growth Fund.”
Commenting on her award, Emma said: “It’s a huge honour to win the International Ambassador Award. It is so important for us to support novice and existing exporters in doing more, identifying and collaborating around opportunities to increase bi-lateral trade.
“Building new markets in new countries can be frustrating, bewildering and hard work, but the rewards can be huge and provide broad business impact - reducing risk and exposure, increasing shareholder value and driving up talent and employee engagement.
“There’s a wealth of knowledge and expertise amongst businesses within the North. I strongly believe in actively sharing this experience and working together so that we can reduce the burden and enable more organisations to benefit from export opportunities.”
