EDF Energy Promotes Road Safety Week
A Sunderland customer service centre is promoting road safety to its 1,600 employees through a week of activity as part of National Road Safety Week.
EDF Energy, based on Doxford International Business Park, is continuing its support of Operation Dragoon, a campaign by Northumbria Police, The North East Ambulance Service, Northumberland Fire and Rescue and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Services to improve road safety and to reduce the number of road offences and fatal and non-fatal accidents on North East roads.
As part of the scheme to promote awareness of road safety, Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Services brought along a life sized car to show the damage caused by road accidents.
PC Jami Blythe, education officer in Operation Dragoon, said: “Education is a key element of Operation Dragoon. We have worked hard to develop this strand over the last two years and working in partnership with EDF Energy is an exciting opportunity to make links with industry.
“By showing employees the shocking results of collisions and car accidents we can promote the importance of road safety and make the North East roads a safer place for everyone.”
Andrew Lister who is health, safety and environment coordinator at EDF Energy Doxford said: “Road safety is becoming an increasingly important topic to educate our staff about. We hope that the week of activities will help our team think about things like tyre pressure and the importance of regular checks on their vehicles, as well as safe driving.
“At EDF Energy we have an ‘Engine On Phone Off Policy’ whilst driving on company business and we also encourage our staff members to adopt this outside of working hours and to become spokespeople, spreading positive messages about safety to their families and the general community.”
Group Manager Graham Smith, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our aim is to create the safest community and we fully support Operation Dragoon. EDF Energy is to be commended for arranging this activity week and promoting road safety in Tyne and Wear.”
