More tech and creative roles for London as Asos expansion to create 1,500 new jobs

Online retailer Asos has announced it is to lavish £40m on expanding its London headquarters as it embarks on a major recruitment drive in the capital.

The UK fashion firm has said it is to carry out the multi-million pound refurbishment of its Mornington Crescent headquarters and add 1,500 new jobs to its London office, with a particular focus on its technology, marketing, content and retail teams.

Renovation at Asos’ current headquarters at the former Carreras cigarette factory will see an additional 40,000 sq ft of space added to the building, including a health club, training academy and library for staff.

Asos currently employs 2,500 people from its London head office, meaning the expansion marks a significant uptick in staff numbers for the ecommerce retailer.

Asos Chief Executive Officer, Nick Beighton, said: “Our people are what make Asos special. We are creating a workspace that fosters creativity, where they can enjoy what they do.”

It marks yet another firm commitment to the capital by a household name after both Facebook and Google committed themselves to London despite fears about access to talent and growth in the wake of Brexit.
