Tombola wins top award at the ‘Oscars’ of the gaming industry

A Sunderland online bingo company has won a top award at the ‘Oscars’ of the gaming industry ceremony.

Tombola, who employs more than 300 people in the city, was named bingo operator of the year for the fourth time in six years at the eGaming Review (eGR) Operator Awards.

The company was highly recommended in the socially responsible operator category and had been shortlisted in three other categories: customer services operator, mobile bingo product and best marketing campaign.

Phil Cronin, Chief Executive of tombola, was delighted to have been named bingo operator of the year again: “I’m thrilled our talented team has once again been recognised in these important awards. As in the past, we were up against the biggest names in gaming in the UK, and the award is recognition of our innovation and hard work. “These awards are our industry’s Oscars, so it means something to us.”

The awards night was held last Monday (November 28) at The Artillery Garden at the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) in London, where more than 700 industry professionals from around the world gathered.

The awards, now in their twelfth year, were hosted by comedian Jason Manford.

Tombola creates original bingo software and games, is one of the largest employers of game and web developers in the region and recently announced plans to take on a further 80 people in tech roles.

Earlier this year the company, Europe’s biggest online bingo operator, was given planning permission to build a new 25,000sq ft office next to its current HQ at Wylam Wharf. The building could be completed by September or October next year.
