Click and collect lunch subscription platform launches in London
Mealfix, the click and collect lunch platform, has launched this week in the capital aiming to give Londoners access to the city’s best independent eateries.
The startup, which was founded by Andrew Moss and Jason Finger, charges a weekly subscription fee, which then allows users to subscribe to fixed-price lunches.
Its platform provides one-click reservations of weekly menus which workers can then pick up from their chosen restaurants, which the firm says helps drive down costs usually associated with on-demand delivery platforms and other middlemen.
Mealfix’s Head of Market for London, James Poulter, explained: “With a huge emphasis on high-quality delivery at the moment, we realised that quite a large chunk of the delivery fee was being passed on to customers.
“We wanted to create an equally convenient way to gain access to great food to enjoy at lunchtime which cut out the middle-man - and therefore the markup either copped by the proprietor or the customer,”
Both co-founders have a background in online food ordering and startups, with Moss having founded Groupon challenger BuyWithMe.com while Jason Finger founded and helmed Seamless which eventually sold to GrubHub. Poulter was also Chief Executive Officer at London startup Pronto.
Borne out of a desire to provide City workers with more nutritious lunches than that ubiquitous sandwich and crisps combination, MealFix has signed up a range of independent London restaurants including Soho’s Ma’Plucker and Tombo, the poké and matcha bar.
Louis Sloley of Tombo commented: “MealFix is a way for us to demonstrate quality to a new audience.
“By offering an alternative to the standard lunch option, we can build a reputation amongst new potential customers who might work in the local area but haven’t properly explored the surrounding dining options. I like that these offers are limited to this member platform.”
