Donation helps secure project for child trauma centre

A therapy centre that helps children and their parents effected by trauma has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes.

The TRC Therapy Centre in Bath is looking to fund a professional to lead a parenting course that aids a child’s recovery.

The centre provides children and young people with weekly individual therapy or counselling. While the children receive therapy, support is provided for their parents and or carers.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, which is based in Portishead, awarded the cash through the Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme. The initiative is open to charities, groups and individuals looking to match funds up to the value of £1,000 that they have already raised themselves.

Krissy Tapp, a spokeswoman for The TRC Therapy Centre, said: “TRC provides a bespoke parenting course written by Betsy de Thierry, director of TRC, which is delivered by a trained expert.

“This course educates parents in trauma and neuroscience and strategies to support their children at home and encourage resilience. It has received really positive feedback from client parents who feel it is really helpful to learn and gain practical strategies to help their children.

“We would like to use the grant to employ a trained professional to lead these parenting courses which costs £3,600. The £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes means we can secure the rest of funding and for this we are grateful.”

Steve Roche, managing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “The TRC Therapy Centre do so much work for children and their families around the Bath area.

“We are delighted our contribution can help many more people in the area and we are proud to support their efforts.”
