Manchester City introduce City Family Day initiative

Manchester City Football Club has recently unveiled an exciting new initiative designed to bring legions of fans together for family fun and exclusive activities ahead of kick-off on home Premier League matchdays.

Launched for the 2016/17 Premier League season, City Family Day is an immersive event that aims to engage with young fans attending their first City match, whilst also rewarding existing fans for their loyalty with a unique matchday experience.

Hosted on the indoor pitch at City Football Academy the 90 minute event starts two and half hours before kick-off at the Etihad Stadium. Families are greeted by a welcome video from captain Vincent Kompany and then have the chance to meet City youth team players, high-five Club mascots Moonchester and Moonbeam, and take their picture with the Capital One Cup, FA Women’s Super League and FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup trophies.

On the very same pitch that the men’s first team train on, attendees can play five-a-side matches, take part in a range of fun football skills games like free kick challenges, penalty shoot-outs, and keepie uppie contests, all with the chance to win exclusive prizes, such as being the player mascot for that day’s Premier League match. Further entertainment includes face painting, Match Attax, table football, a photo booth, live music and more.

To close the pre-match event, attendees are encouraged to join flag bearers and City Square presenters on a March To The Match over the bridge to join the rest of the home team fans as they gather at the Etihad Stadium.

City Family Day reinforces the Club’s commitment to offering a world-class experience for fans on matchday by providing fun, interactive and engaging environments for its fans. Research into best practice across family areas in football stadiums from around the UK saw the Club conduct a revamp of the interior of the Club’s dedicated Family Stand for season 2016/17. New activities within the Family Stand for this season include ceiling flags featuring fan chants, a letterbox for fans to send questions to their favourite players and a colouring-in wall, with dedicated staff introduced to the Family Stand to help young fans and their families to get the most out of their matchday experience.

Speaking about City Family Day, Danny Wilson, Operations Director at Manchester City Football Club said, “We strive to not only be the best on the pitch, but to also offer the most unique and innovative experiences for our fans on a matchday. City Family Day allows us to connect with our fans old and new, and gives them even greater opportunities to get closer to the Club that they love.”

City Family Day is free of charge and open to all Manchester City fans on a first come first served basis. Tickets can be redeemed online at mancity.com/cityfamilyday for up to two adults and two juniors aged 5-14 years. Tickets become available two weeks prior to the Premier League matchday for each City Family Day, with events already confirmed for Arsenal on 18th December, Burnley on 2nd January and Tottenham Hotspur on 21st January 2017.
