Middlesbrough chef brings latest venture to Dundas
Brickyard Bakery, an artisan baker’s shop, is the latest retailer to open in Dundas Indoor Market, part of Middlesbrough’s Dundas Shopping Centre.
Five new jobs, three in the new store and a further two in the bakery based in Guisborough, have been created, says owner and chef Ed Trewhitt.
Mr Trewhitt opened a traditional bakery and shop at Brickyard Bakery in Westgate in Guisborough town centre last year, making a range of traditional hand-crafted breads and cakes.
Such was its success that he soon opened a tea room next door and started running bread making courses and selling bread making and baking kits, along with a range of locally produced jams and honeys.
Commenting on his latest venture, he said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the success of Brickyard Bakery in Guisborough through the support of our customers recommending us personally and through some fantastic comments on our Facebook page.
“This business is something of a personal crusade for traditional bread and social enterprise. I want to prove that people can eat quality hand-crafted artisan products at supermarket prices.”
Dundas Market Manager David Harris added: “We are delighted to welcome Brickyard Bakery to the market. Ed’s business fits perfectly with the ethos of Dundas Indoor Market.”
