TraffordCity venue to become North West’s first ‘modular’ hotel

A new 220-bedroom hotel at the TraffordCity retail and leisure development in Manchester is beginning to take shape, as the site prepares to become the North West’s first ‘modular’ hotel.

Made entirely from shipping containers, the final ‘fully dressed’ containers forming the new Holiday Inn Express venue are now in place.

As part of the modular building technique, the purpose-built steel shipping containers were installed with fully finished interior fixtures and fittings, including full-height windows, carpets, wallpaper, ceilings and lights before arriving on the 1.75 acre site.

Property giant Peel Group’s Tower Hotel Management business was awarded the management contract to operate the TraffordCity Holiday Inn Express.

Tower Hotel Management MD Peter de la Perrelle said: “It’s fantastic to see the hotel taking form so quickly thanks to this new approach to the design and build process, which essentially halves the duration of the build schedule.

“Tower Hotel Management is delighted to have been chosen to operate this new hotel and we are looking toward a May 2017 finish.”

The project is the first from a joint venture between investment firm Topland Group, capital management company Marick Capital and developer Mill Lane Estates.

Speaking further, Peter said: “In a prime location, Holiday Inn Express TraffordCity is ideally suited to serve the huge numbers of both leisure and business travellers visiting EventCity, intu Trafford Centre and the wider TraffordCity area.

“The planned arrival of the TfGM Metrolink line in several years’ time will only increase the hotel’s appeal.”

Chapman Taylor is the scheme’s architect, while Bowmer & Kirkland is on board as the main contractor.

Holiday Inn Express at TraffordCity is due to open June 2017.
