Housebuilder takes Selby Young Carers to the summit

Youngsters from a young carers group in Selby enjoyed an action–packed day out, courtesy of a local housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes Yorkshire funded for 21 youngsters from Action for Children Selby Young Carers to visit the town’s brand new Summit Indoor Adventure centre.

The young carers group was named as a ‘Community Champion’ by the housebuilder, which financially supports grassroots activities and charities that improve the quality of life for local people.

Sam Monk, fundraiser at Action for Children Selby Young Carers, was delighted to receive the £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire.

She said: “Many Young carers have immense responsibility at such a young age, with many providing an extensive amount of caring, which in turn can have a significant impact on the young carers.

“We aim to provide a supportive service for both the child / young person and their families. The service aims to provide many aspects of support to young carers including the opportunities to escape their caring duties, enabling them to enjoy their childhood and share experiences with other young carers”.

“The Summit trip was very popular, especially as it’s the latest attraction to open in Selby. The children enjoyed adventure climbing, aerial trekking, bowling and lunch. It was an amazing day out and we even have funds left to put towards our annual pantomime trip and Christmas activities. We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes.”

The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000 by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.

Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “We have been building in the Selby area, at our Staynor Hall development, for a number of years so are very pleased that the Community Champions initiative can help to benefit such a worthy local cause.”

Persimmon Homes Yorkshire is currently building at Staynor Hall, Selby as well as having developments in Hull, Hornsea, Wilberfoss, Scunthorpe, Pocklington, Sherburn-in-Elmet and Doncaster.
