Kind-hearted staff rally round to help Foodbank

Generous Salix Homes staff and tenants have been raiding their cupboards to help Salford residents who are living on the breadline.

Bags and boxes of food have been donated to Salford Central Foodbank who will provide much needed groceries to local people in crisis this Christmas and New Year.

In 2015, the foodbank, who serve the entire city, fed 3,260 families. The organisation announced 2016 has been the busiest yet for them, since its formation in 2012.

Sue Sutton, executive director of operations at Salix Homes, said: “Sadly many families in Salford are struggling to put food on the table, which is why we feel it is so important to support charities like Salford Central Foodbank for the wonderful work they do.

“The foodbank not only makes a difference at this time of the year, but all year round.

“It’s been heart-warming to see so many colleagues and tenants get behind this drive and want to make a difference for many families in the city.”

Mark Whittington, manager at Salford Central Foodbank, was delighted with the amount raised when he came to pick up the tins, jars, packets and cans at Salix Homes’ headquarters, this week.

He added: “It’s great to see so many people making donations to the foodbank and well done to Salix Homes for carrying out this appeal which will go a long way to helping local families in crisis and making sure they don’t go hungry.

“Christmas is very busy period for us and we receive amazing support, but we run all year round. So if you have any spare food items you want to donate, at any time of the year, please contact us.”

Salford Central Foodbank is a project that was founded by Christ Central Manchester church but is now part of the Freedom Central Manchester charity. It is supported by local churches and the community, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.
