Morris & Spottiswood completes £1.75m housing makeover for River Clyde Homes
Fit-out contractor Morris & Spottiswood has finished work on a seven-figure makeover for Scottish social housing provider River Clyde Homes.
The £1.75m project saw the Warrington firm create an energy-saving biomass heating system for 49 flats and communal areas at Cartsdyke Apartments in Greenock, Renfrewshire.
Morris & Spottiswood’s operations director, Gordon Clyne, said: “All the work that has been carried out over the year-long project has been undertaken with one major aim in mind – to provide high quality energy efficient measures for all the flats.
“Getting a reduction in energy bills was the priority of River Clyde Homes from day one of the programme.”
He continued: “The new modern biomass system that has been installed replaces the properties’ electric storage heating with hot water provided by an electric immersion controlled cylinder. Coupled with the insulation work we have carried out, and the new windows and doors installed, the effect of the improvements will be much, much lower energy bills.”
Carried out across three phases, the work included the creation of a new insulated roof for the 12-storey residential property. All external windows were replaced, while new flooring coverings were laid in the landing area.
Additionally, each home was given a new front door.
The team behind the scheme included AHR Architects, interior design firm ARKA, Murray Russell Architects, structural engineers David R Murray & Associates, biomass contractors Gibson & Goold, and service consultant Atelier Ten.
