Northern Juice expands healthy drinks business to Newcastle city centre
Northern Juice, the cold pressed juice delivery service, has announced the opening of a pop up juice shop on Newcastle’s High Bridge Street.
Launched last year by fourth generation Hexham greengrocer Andrew Hardie and Emma Handley, the pop up expands on the firm’s cold press juice range, which includes smoothies, wellness shots, raw treats and clean eats.
“The food we sell is the food we believe in”, comments Emma, following an exciting 2016 full of speedy development for the new business.
“From starting out with trial recipes early in 2016 to opening our store in December, uptake has been swift and feedback overwhelmingly positive”, adds Andrew. “We’re a small family business doing everything we can for ourselves.”
Not only is juicing done in house, the small family business has been solely responsible for package design, marketing, stall manning, shop renovation and redesign, as well as continuous R&D.
Located on No.24 High Bridge Street, opposite Pleased to Meet You, the new shop hopes to capitalise on “anyone looking for real food and well being” in the city centre, according to Andrew.
“We were looking for a good space to start out in and just happened to be driving past, so blind luck really”, he adds.
“The space was up for a 6 month lease giving us the perfect opportunity for a Northern Juice Pop Up without too much risk.”
He continues: “A pop up is a great format to be creative and playful, trialling new flavours and broadening our offer to food, clean treats, hot healing drinks and smoothies.
“Everything we offer is made with the mantra of ‘clean and wholesome’ in mind. We want people to feel nourished, that they’ve benefitted from eating and drinking with us. Eating well should be simple, grab and go, and surely shouldn’t strip us of our health.
It is in this natural ethos, and commitment to an unprocessed and raw approach, which gives the business its distinction in Newcastle’s ever-growing and diversifying food and drink scene.
“Staying away from the soy, seed oils and refined sugar so prevalent in food today was important for us. Our food offer is unprocessed, raw, or slow made with simple natural ingredients.
“You’ll find an absolute bounty of high quality superfoods here too, spirulina, lacuma, maca, and acai, bee pollen and manuka are prominent in our recipes.
“We currently offer a variety of salad snack jars, raw, vegan and gluten free treats, but are looking at ways of expanding the food offer to complement the variety and quality of our drinks.”
Andrew is keen to dispel the myth that only regular gym goers and health extremists can enjoy the offering of health-conscious eateries such as Northern Juice.
In fact, to the duo’s delight, “knitting ladies, vegans, city workers, students, gym goers, mums, dads, the hungover, the curious and more” have all been keen to try out products and drinks on offer at the shop.
“A real slice of Newcastle life has been through our door and we’re thrilled”, adds Andrew. “Well being is for everyone at Northern Juice.”
The new shop is open from 10am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday although opening hours are subject to change.
