Streaming service TVPlayer unveils exclusive digital-first partnership
UK streaming service TVPlayer has announced an exclusive deal with a cloud-based internet video service that will add hundreds of digital-first programming to its channel line-up.
The agreement with Frequency, announced today at CES in Las Vegas, will see the London-based over the top (OTT) streaming provider carry major digital brands and social influencers as part of its freemium platform, including Studio 71, Newsy and Machinima.
It comes after TVPlayer became the first provider to secure 4G streaming rights for all the major UK terrestrial TV channels and closed a £5m investment round last year led by US broadcaster A&E Network.
The exclusive three-year deal which complements the streaming service’s traditional TV tie-ups underlines the increasing popularity of digitally-focused content, particularly amongst younger audiences raised on the likes of YouTube and Vevo.
Following the announcement, Rob Hodgkinson, Chief Operating Officer of TVPlayer, commented: “Keen to establish TVPlayer as the launch platform for lean-back video experiences, we wanted to instigate a comprehensive digital-first programming strategy alongside our premium broadcast offering, and with Frequency, we’re able to do that with one deal and with one simple integration.”
Ian Aaron, President of Frequency, added: “TVPlayer’s unique OTT platform and rapid growth in the UK makes them an exciting and strategic partner for Frequency.
“Our expansive catalogue of top digital-first content, delivered in linear and on-demand formats, will enhance TVPlayer’s already compelling programming line-up.”
