Robin restarts career with return to Quantum

Veteran PR man Robin Treacher has made a return to work following an illness which kept him away from the profession for several years. This month he has returned to his former office at Quantum Public Relations to re-join Managing Director Charlie Vavasour.

A former journalist and local government communications officer, Robin started a career in PR consultancy when he formed DTW (Durnall, Treacher and Whelan) in Teasside, with two other directors which gained prominence throughout 1990s and in 2006, he opened a southern branch of the agency with Charlie Vavasour. Both agencies were sold to staff and other directors over time.

As Associate Director, Robin will be supporting Quantum’s variety of client accounts, using his experience to offer advice and assistance to businesses looking to improve their communications to stakeholders.

Robin said: “I got the all clear in November after a bit of a health battle which took longer than I hoped or expected. I am now well and firing on all cylinders. I missed the structure that the workplace provides, but most of all I missed the work and clients. I have always said I have been lucky in that I enjoy the work I do.

“Thanks to Charlie, I am able to start my career all over again.”

Robin is a former chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) local government group. He also chaired the National Association of Public Sector Advertisers and was one of the first practitioners to be made a Fellow of the CIPR when it achieved chartered status.

For 25 years, Robin specialised in local government PR, the waste industry, media training, the fireworks industry and ‘controversial’ planning issues involving public consultation programmes.

After selling the two agencies to staff members, Robin went in-house for a large American energy company as European Director of Communications before being taken ill in 2011.

Charlie Vavasour said: “It is fantastic to welcome Robin back into the fold following his serious illness. His experience and knowledge bring a different dimension to the business and we are already reaping the benefits of his return.”

In 2015, Robin was elected as a Parish Councillor and he now chairs his local parish council outside Canterbury, Kent.
