FOODelicious fun at intu Eldon Square

Tastebuds at the ready as intu Eldon Square prepares a smorgasbord of foodfest treats to banish the January blues.

FOODelicious (16-22 Jan) promises gargantuan gastronomic delights, delectable dining deals as well as fun activities for all the family, free entertainment and cool competitions with great prizes.

Every day the FOODelicious sampling station near Boots and John Lewis will be offering tantalising bite size tasters from the eclectic mix of restaurants in the centre.(11am – 3.30 pm)

Eateries from intu Eldon Square’s chic new dining quarter will be engaging shoppers on the malls with a range of great games and giveaways on different days. On Thursday 19 January, Crepeaffaire will be stationed outside Boots, and on the look out for the fastest pancake flipper, with a year’s supply of free crepes up for grabs.

Comedy Waiters will be providing their own inimitable style of entertainment in the dining quarter, while culinary jugglers and magicians are sure to bring joy to spectators of all ages.

The celebratory mood continues with lively cultural performances by the Chiquitos-Doritos mariachi band as well as music from north-east singer songwriter Jake Houlsby, playing his eclectic mix of classic and modern tracks.

Children’s arts and crafts activities will be taking place with Frankie & Benny’s near Debenhams as well as with Pizza Express near John Lewis, while Smashburger transports visitors to the Big Apple with a New York style taxi – who could resist snapping a selfie or two?!

Hundreds of prizes are waiting to be won throughout the week, including spin the wheel at the Monument entrance to the dining quarter to win a range of tasty treats including gift vouchers and free meals at some of intu Eldon Square’s hottest restaurants.

Live ice sculpture carving will take pride of place near to the Monument entrance, where a £1,000 intu Gift Card will be frozen within the sculpture, ready for one lucky person to win if they guess the correct time the card will fall out of the melting ice.

Following his commission for the ‘Lollipops and 99s’ artwork, which appears on the dividing shutter at one of the entrances to the new dining area, internationally acclaimed artist Alexander Miller will be hosting a painting master class in centre on Sunday 22nd January outside Debenhams (12pm, 1pm, 2pm) and The Globe Gallery’s Blossom Tree project will be asking visitors to share their hopes for the new year.
