‘State-of-the-art’ refuelling station opens for HGV drivers at Port of Liverpool

A new 24-hour HGV refuelling station has launched at the Port of Liverpool.

Fuel distributor Certas Energy and port operator Peel Ports Group hosted the grand opening of the state-of-the-art facility, which houses pumps that can deliver 120 litres of fuel per minute for up to eight vehicles at any given time.

To mark the occasion, representatives of Certas and Peel were joined by port users for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Certas Energy’s national bunker manager, Andrew Goodwin, said: “We’re really pleased that the site is now open.

“Feedback received from port users during the construction phase is that this will be extremely convenient for them.”

He continued: “They will be able to refuel on entering or leaving the port which means that they do not have to detour off route before making their onward journeys. We look forward to welcoming port users to the site.”

Peel Ports’ group land and property director, Andrew Martin, believes the facility will make the journey of hauliers at the Port of Liverpool “more convenient and efficient”, adding: “[The site] will provide a key service at the doorstep to the new Liverpool2 container terminal.

“The Certas Energy team has been very professional to deal with and we look forward to building upon that partnership in the future.”

Joe Long of Maghull-based Long Haul Logistics praised the facility as “very convenient” for his company’s drivers. He said: “With us being a port-based haulier [the station] caters greatly for our needs.

“We have an excellent relationship with Certas Energy and look forward to using the facility for the foreseeable future.”

Planning permission for the site was granted in September last year.
