Spire Healthcare's new Didsbury hospital

Spire Healthcare opens £65m ‘state-of-the-art’ hospital in Manchester

Private hospital group Spire Healthcare has this morning (January 23) announced the opening of its new multi-million pound hospital in Manchester.

Following successful registration with the Care Quality Commission, the company’s new £65m facility in Didsbury will replace its previous hospital in Whalley Range.

The site, which Spire said was designed using input from consultants, staff and patients, houses six operating theatres, 76 beds and 23 outpatient consulting and treatment rooms.

The hospital will offer complex surgery and medicine via a large Intensive Therapy Critical Care Unit (CCITU), including five Level 3 Critical Care beds and new diagnostic and imaging equipment manufactured by Siemens.

Hydrotherapy, a hybrid theatre and an education centre will also be available at the Didsbury site.

The director of Spire Manchester Hospital, Chris Chadwick, said: “This new hospital is in a prime location and will provide local and wider Manchester communities with excellent access to a comprehensive range of medical services and up-to-date facilities.

“We are delighted to have made this investment in better patient services, better patient accommodation and better technology enabling us to deliver the highest quality care and clinical outcomes for all our patients at Spire Manchester Hospital.”

Spire’s business development director, Neil McCullough, commented: “I am thrilled that we have been able to complete this project on time and within budget.

“This new state-of-the-art hospital will bring significant employment and economic benefits to the local Didsbury community as well as a leading healthcare centre for Manchester.”

He continued: “I would like to thank our patients, staff, consultants, Siemens, Manchester City Council and various contractors who have been instrumental over the past two years in building what is undoubtedly one of the best independent hospitals in the country, and which brings together research, education and clinical care to serve those locally and beyond.”
