New platform bringing gig economy-style projects to data science launches

Pivigo, the London-headquartered data science hub, has today launched Europe’s first data science marketplace which is bringing gig economy-style working to data science projects.

The marketplace will give companies the opportunity to outsource their data projects to a pool of data professionals, who will be available on-demand at any time and able to apply for projects that fit their requirements.

Citing a TechUK white paper from last year, the firm said the new platform will help bridge the skills gap between business and the UK’s data science community, which the tech body estimated was costing UK industry over £2bn per year.

According to Pivigo, which has already worked with companies such as KPMG and Royal Mail, the system will make data science more accessible to businesses who perhaps may have been unable or wary of dabbling in it previously.

Kim Nilsson, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, believes that firm’s who are able to capitalise and harness data science will have ‘first mover advantage’ which can give them previously unattainable insights into their operations.

She said: “They gain the ability to apply previous inaccessible insights to increase sales, improve efficiency and save money. Not many businesses however have access to a team of data science experts from around the world.

“The on-demand marketplace we have created is the solution for any business who wants to use data science to grow and improve their overall performance.”

Launched in 2013, the business has already worked on over 80 data science projects with big name clients including Barclays and smaller startups such as on-demand medical staffing platform Network Locum.

Founded by Kim Nilsson and Jim Muller, the data firm provides services including price optimisation, predictive modelling, recommendation systems and data exploration, on top of its new on-demand data science platform.
