Primary School pupil wins design competition in Skelmanthorpe!

A young girl from St Aidan’s Primary School has been named the winner of a David Wilson Homes art competition to draw their ideal train. The winning entry by Lexxie Maloney, won a family ticket for a day at Kirklees Light Railway, which is close to David Wilson Homes’ The Paddocks development, in Skelmanthorpe.

The competition, which encouraged local children from the school to draw their ideal train, is an extension of David Wilson Homes’ on-going efforts to support local communities in which it builds. Kirklees Light Railway, situation in Huddersfield, hosts memorable family days out by offering trips on trains for a scenic journey along their 15“ narrow-guage rail.

Lexxie Maloney, aged eight, submitted a creative drawing, which included king sized beds, hot water bottles and a trampoline for passengers, and was selected as the winner out of a number of entries from St Aidan’s Primary School, winning tickets for her and her family to visit the railway.

Laura Wilmott, Year 4 and Assistant Headteacher at St Aidan’s Primary School, commented:

“We’re thrilled to have been involved with David Wilson Homes and this competition – The children loved creating pictures of their ideal trains and Lexxie is extremely excited to have won a trip to the station!”

Nicki Jefferson, Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes’ The Paddocks development, said:

“We’re always looking for ways to get involved with the local community, so we thought it would be great to link up with Kirklees Light Railway to inspire the pupils at St Aidan’s to imagine their ideal train. All the children worked really hard, creating some really impressive drawings. Lexxie’s artwork and ideas really stood out and we hope she enjoys her trip to the railway very much!”

Situated in a beautiful semi-rural area, The Paddocks offers luxurious three and four bedroom homes looking out across Emley Moor. A handy range of local amenities are only a short walk away in Skelmanthorpe Village, whilst easy access to the M1 motorways makes The Paddocks an ideal destination for commuters. Homes start from £309,995.
